The Hidden Treasure
Mixed-media/installation (acrylic, tempera, 24k gold, silver, brass and copper leaf) on volcanic stone. On mirror
The Hidden Treasure is inspired by an episode of the Gospel, in which a rich merchant is looking for the most precious pearl of all; when he finds it, he sells all he has to get it.
The pearl, which in human terms is something extremely precious, from a spiritual point of view symbolizes faith and thus the way to be in contact with God, the most precious thing men should long for.
This artwork is on volcanic rock and it comes from the tiny volcanic and pedestrian island of Alicudi in the south of Italy (Sicily). It has traveled first by donkey's back to back to reach the harbour, then by hydrofoil, then by lorry, then by ship, then by plane... before reaching the Gulf.
